Version 1.0 — last updated 20 September 2026.

1. Who is responsible for your data

Ask the Buyer is the data controller for the personal data described here. Contact: hello@askthebuyer.co.uk, askthebuyer.co.uk. Registered business address: [Business address to be added before go-live].

2. What we collect

  • Account details — name, email address, password (stored encrypted by our authentication provider), registration date, and the date and version of the terms you accepted.
  • Enquiries and downloads — name, email, business name and anything you write to us.
  • Tool inputs — the business details, notes, specifications and answers you enter into our tools.
  • Usage data — anonymous session identifier, page addresses, which tools were used and counts or lengths of input. We do not store the text you typed in our usage logs.

3. Why we use it, and our lawful basis

  • To provide your account and the tools — performance of our contract with you.
  • To respond to enquiries and improve the service — our legitimate interests.
  • To send marketing emails — your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
  • To measure how the site is used with analytics cookies — your consent.
  • To meet accounting and legal obligations — legal obligation.

4. Artificial intelligence

Some tools send the information you enter to a third-party AI provider so a draft can be generated. Only what is needed to produce your draft is sent. Do not paste material that is confidential to a third party or that you are not permitted to share.

5. Who we share data with

We use trusted suppliers to run the service: hosting and database providers, our authentication provider, our AI provider, our email delivery provider and analytics. They process data on our instructions under written terms. We do not sell your data. Where data is transferred outside the UK, appropriate safeguards such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum are in place.

6. Cookies

We use essential cookies and local storage to keep you signed in and to remember your cookie choice. These are always on because the site cannot work without them.

With your consent we also use analytics cookies (Google Analytics and our own usage log) to understand which pages and tools are used. Nothing analytics-related runs until you press "Accept all" on the cookie banner. If you press "Reject analytics" we set no analytics cookies and record no usage events.

To change your mind, clear this site's data in your browser and the banner will appear again, or email hello@askthebuyer.co.uk and we will action it for you.

7. How long we keep it

Account data is kept while your account is open and for up to 12 months afterwards. Enquiry records are kept for up to 24 months. Usage logs are kept for up to 24 months. Records needed for tax and accounting are kept for 6 years.

8. Your rights

You have the right to access your data, to have it corrected or erased, to restrict or object to processing, to data portability, and to withdraw consent at any time. To exercise any of these, email hello@askthebuyer.co.uk. We will respond within one month.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.

9. Security

Data is held in access-controlled, encrypted cloud services. Passwords are hashed and never visible to us. Access is limited to those who need it to run the service.

10. Changes

We will update this page when our practices change and revise the version number and date at the top.
